BOYS BASEBALL (GROVE PARK) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1956 ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE FARISH STREET Y.M.C.A.. AT THE Y.M.C.A.,YOUNG MEN GATHERED TO ORGANIZE BASEBALL FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN BOYS. THE TARGETED AREA WERE BOYS FROM THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITIES: SHADY OAKS, GEORGETOWN, BEL AIR, VIRDEN ADDITION AND SURROUNDING AREAS. THE GOAL FOR BOYS BASEBALL WAS TO GIVE YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN BOYS A PLACE TO HAVE FUN AND LEARN THE GAME OF BASEBALL. THE KIDS WERE ALSO TAUGHT SPORTSMENSHIP, REPONSIBILITY, FUNDAMENTALS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH LIFE CHALLENGES. AFTER A SUCCESSFULL START, BOYS BASEBALL WAS FINALLY INCORPERATED IN 1981. IN THAT TIME, BOYS BASEBALL STARTED WITH JUST SIX TEAMS. TODAY, BOYS BASEBALL HAS GROWN TO OVER 20 TEAMS RANGING FROM THE AGES OF 3-18 YEARS OF AGE.
